Decorating wooden houses - our area of expertise!
Over the past 35 years, we have gained expertise in decorating wooden houses, especially Swiss houses. You can use this if you want to build a new one or restore one!
One of the characteristic features of the Swiss house is the saddle roof with the large eaves and visible, carved beams. For this, we supply a simple variant where the rafter legs are screwed on under the cornice, on a modern roof construction. These were called rafter legs from ancient times. The roof construction also includes the elaborate gable spire and the spearhead below. The fretwork in the ridge – the carpentry delight itself – is an important trademark of the Swiss houses. Here, beautiful, imaginative fillings are inserted between the structural elements. Aanesland Treindustri tailors several variants of carpentry delight and decoration to all kinds of angles and dimensions.
Aanesland also produces beautiful window decorations. Supplied as complete sets, customized to your windows. Please specify the external width and height of the window frame when requesting. As floor dividers, we produce toothed boards, lace boards and roof edge moldings.
Roof Purlins and Ridge Beams
Roof purlins and ridge beams are part of the roof structure. A roof purlin is a horizontal, load-bearing beam that runs parallel to the ridge. The ridge beam is the purlin located at the very top of the ridge. Solid spruce or pine is typically used for roof purlins. Upon request, we can create two flat bearings for beams on the ridge beam, and one flat bearing for beams on the roof purlins. To reduce cracking during drying, we often cut drying grooves along the timber.
We can lathe-turn purlins in long lengths with a diameter of up to Ø65 cm.
Spruce is most suitable for purlins as it has the most "elasticity” and straightens back up after being subjected to heavy snow loads. Pine is also used but has less ability to straighten after bending under a heavy snow load.
We supply roof and ridge purlins for both houses and cabins, and offer several finishes:
• Cylindrically lathe-turned purlins with the same diameter throughout.
• Lathe-turned purlins that follow the timber's natural taper.
• Hand-planed purlins with a rougher and more natural surface.
All purlins can be made with recesses or notches for passage through walls or other connection points.
