Museum of the Viking Age

Unique constructions and art

For the new Museum of the Viking Age, we have delivered a total of 4,300 square metres of glulam ceilings. In addition, we have been responsible for the project planning, production, and installation of 240 roof purlin elements, consisting of beams, cross laminated timber, and structural timber. Each element is up to 18 metres long and weighs approximately one tonne. Every single element is unique, with varying angles and lengths, requiring high demands on precision in both project planning and production.

The roof purlin elements feature an advanced and distinctive propeller-shaped design, developed from the architects’ unique and geometrically complex drawings. The structure was originally designed with highly demanding geometry, and both architects and engineers faced significant technical challenges.

We were awarded the projkect after our team identified the practical solution — demonstrating the strongest understanding of how the complex roof structure could be realised at full scale.

The museum is scheduled for full completion in 2027.
